Rakaia. Anzac Day will /be celebrated in Rakaia by a combined service at the Cenotaph at 3 p.m.. The Kev. W. J. Henderson, of tho Methodist Church, will give, the address, and .will be assisted by' the Rev. Father, Price, Rev. : A.' S. Morrison, Rev. E. N. Blakistoh, and Captain Stein.; The "Last PostM will be sounded by Mr Columbus. -Tai Tapu on Sunday. Tho unveiling ceremony of tho Cenotaph erected by the residents of Tai Tapu in femetfibrance Of the men of the district who wero killed in the Great War will take place. Oh Sunday after* noon at 2.30. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, K 8.E., Mihister of Defence, and member for the district, will perform the ceremony. Other speakers will be Mr John Gilmour, chairman of the Memorial Committee, Colonel H. Stewart, presifleflt of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, and the Revs. ( "\V. Laycock, C. L. Alison, and V. Bobcrtson. SHOPS MUST CLOSE. POLICE GIVE WARNING. The police give warning to all proprietors of fruit and confectionary shops that theV must not carry on their usual business on Anzac Day. If shopkeepers open they will do bo at their own risk, and. all those who are caught trading will be prosecuted. So far as the law is concerned, Anzac Day i$ a Sunday, arid people who sell goods on that day ate liable to bo charged with Sunday that a number of fruiterers and confectioners kept their shops open on Anzac Day last year has been brought under the notice fry the secretary of the Returned. Soldiers' Association.■ One of the members of the staff in tb® °', e , told a • representative of fho Press yesterday that a number of fruit and confectionery shop-owners had complained to the isecretary that other similar shops had opened last year while the complainants had observed, the law and closed, and yo* nothing had been done. Therefore they contended that they had as much right to open as anyone else. As a result the secretary wrote to the poli<fo about the matter. In his letter to the police the secretary aavs as no action was taken against thoaie who opened for business last year the result is that numerous others in-, tend opening their shops to-morrow. However, if any such breach of the i a w is observed by the police this year (and they will Keop a sharp lookout for offenders), Magistrate's Court proceedings will follow.
