Members of the party which visited the glacial region at the head of the Waimakariri Kiver during the Easter holidays held a re-union at the HendevoUs Dining Rooms last evening, the object being to inspect the photographs taken bv vurious members. There was a large and striking collection of these, most of the party having been equipped with cameras, and if there are any misconceptions about the beauty of the region the photos should effectually remove them. It is proposed to make a collection and present them , to the Tourist Department. A report for submission to the Canterbury Progress League in regard to the development of the resort was read out to members and approved. An Auckland land agent, who at one time resided in Invercargill, received a pleasant surprise, recently in the shape of a notification by a vendor in that town that he had sold a property to_aclient who was introduced to him bv "the aforesaid agent as far back as 1914. The writer asked for the agent's eorcert address in order that his share of the commission on the sale could be forwarded. This was eeut and in due course tho Auckland agent received a cheque. The Auckland agent says he remembers the prospective buyer of the property saying that he would think over it, but owing to the intervening years he had forgotten the whole.matter until he received the welcome letter from the vendor. As it took from. 1914 to 1920 for the purchaser ta think over the question of purchasing, it is fair (remarks the "Star") to assume that he hailed from Scotland, ..... , „„..,_....

The figures include electricity supplied to the tramways. On Monday, Mr J. Chapman, a local sportsman, while deer-stalking in the Ashhurtou Ranges, succeeded in getting an ]B-poinler (writes our Stavcley correspondent). For any year, and especially this one, this head is a notable one. Oood heads have been very rare this season, and although the number of points is only one consideration in estimating a head, this 18-poinfer apparently answers well to other considerations.
Wellington trams last year carried 40.2(35,579 passengers (an increase of 1.533,545 on the previous year) and ran 3,4«2,354 miles. The common fallacy that New Zealand i s a country infested with black men and cannibals has not yet been cleared from the minds of some immigrants (says the "Otago Daily Times"). An immigrant who recently arrived in Duuedin "says that some ,of his fellowpassengers o'n the shin were in possession oi' firearms of every description, and, when ask,ed the reason, said they were not talcing any chances with the "blacks." It took a good deal of persuasion on the part of the passengers oonversant with New Zealand and its people to convince their companions that the stories they had heard were myths, and that New Zealand was « eivilised country.
Crossword pugrles have become such an obsession in Sydney that, not only are they now being used as a me;uis of advertising, but they arc being brought into the election campaign (writes our Sydney correspondent). Mr Scott Fell, one of the members for North Sydney, who is again seeking election, is making ingenious use of the craze. In a leaflet distributed by his committee, a big sum is offered. m prizes for the solution ot a crossword puzzle. Not by any coincidence, the blacked-in portions spell out the words in arresting type, "Vote Scott Fell One." Of the thousands of people with an itch for prying into these crossword puzzles, only a few will win the prizes in this case; but thev will all be reminded of the fact; that Mr Scott Fell is in the field. After all, there is something of an affinity between crosswords and politics. Don't take liberties with yonr health. You can't afford to "lay-up." At the first symptoms of a cold take MoArthur's "Stop-It." It's wonderful the way this good old remedy gets to work. A few doses -will relieve and one bottle generally effects a cure. "StopIt" is sold everywhere in Is 9d and 3s bottles. McArthur's, Ltd., Chemists, Mc Arthur's Corner.
