A NEW HALL. (jrroiAi. to "the ?a«ss.") GREYMOUTH. April 22. Residents of Mawheraiti and districtare taking the initial steps in connexion with the construction of a new public hall, which will be erected on a central site. Nelson Education Board. Sir James Parr has consented to the holding of the next meeting of the Nelson Education Board at Westport. Representations were recently made regarding the matter by the Hon. W. 11. Mclntyre. M.L.C. Cobden Domain. Mr J. O'Brien. M.P., has received advice through the Minister of Education that the request of the Cobden Domain Board for a grant to put the Recreation Ground in order has been refused. The communication states that since 1910 two subsidies of £SO each have been granted. With reference to the suggestion made by the deputation that the ground should be controlled bv the Town Board, it is pointed out that the residents decided at a public meeting to allow control to remain in the hands of the Domain Board. The former body, however, has power to grant assistance. Electric Lighting. It is anticipated that some of the streets of AVostport will be lighted by electricity in June. , Obituary. Mrs F. Rcece, eldest daughter of tho late Mr and Mrs J. Gale, of Arahaura, died yesterday at- Rauriniu. Personal. Mr A. Seed, secretary of the New Zealand Sawmillers' Federation, is visiting the West Coast. Mr and Mrs F. Barrowman leavo tomorrow on a holiday visit to Christcliureh. Tho funeral of the late Mr Michael Lynch took place this afternoon at Karoro. Kcquieni Mass was celebrated by the Ecv. Father Madden, who also read the burial service. In the cortege were many friends of deceased from Uokitika. . Mr J. Mclndoc, clerk of the Magistrate's Court, who will leave Greymouth shortly for Invercargill on transfer, Was tendered a farewell by the congregation of-St. Joint's Methodist •Church. The Rev. J. F. Martin presided. Mr I. Nelson, circuit steward, paid a tribute to the work of Mr and Mrs Mclndoc in church affairs. He presented the former with a, leather kitbag and with a set of cutlery and casserole for Mrs Mclndoc. Mr Wilfred Mclndoc was also made the recipient or a book and wallet.
Wedding. The marriage was solemnised at Harihariof Mr Cecil Barrett, of Wataroa, to Miss-Elsie. Thompson, of East Oxford, and late of Okarito.
