PICTURE HOUSES. GREATER CRYSTAL PALACE. Wanda-Hawley, with her bewitching manner and 'mirthful adventuress, keeps the audience looking up for the full hilarious fifteen minutes or so in "Looking Down," which is now showing at Greater Crystal Palac;. Most of the ma!o section- of t'he audience wait for the. appearance of Jack D<?mpsev, and. he shows in "Fight and. Win" that he has lest none of his punch, and has no more fear of the director's camera than he ha-3 of the timekerpcr's gong. The stoiv is one in-which cioolt pron-otns figure en a champion's downfall.' but the champion has something to feht fir—and ho wins. All the fascination of Ca'.ifornin's goldfields enters into the next feiture fiim, ''The Sunset Trail," with William Desmond i'nd Gareth Hughes playing the leading robs. A very unu-ual plot is unravelled in the third big picture, "Roulette," founded on a (famous magazine storv by W.lliam McHarg.
EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. Anna Q. Nilsson, Lewis Stone, and Mary Astor are featured in "Inez from Hollywood," which is now being screened at Everybody's Theatre. One is afforded an intimate glimpse of studio life und screen rorsonuiities.. For instance, in <m scene one beholds Antonio Moreno, Wallace Beery, and the three young and popular stais,. Lloyd Hughea, Ben i-yon,' and Fold Sterling,' all taking part, in a lunch set fur them in-the studio dressing room of Anna Q. Nilsson, wh:> p-:rtvays the part of thea rical vampire. It is one of the best First National releases seen for a considerable time. "The Fool's Awakening," a. six-reel Para-mount-Metro production, is placed as the second big attraction en the new programme. The supports are excellent. GRAND THEATRE. One of Zane Grey's best.is "The Border Legion," heading this week's bill at the Grand Theatre. Jack Kelis wa3 the leader of tho Border Legion and was a ruler of men, but there was one man in tho Legion whom he could not manage, Gulden, the mo*t heartless of heartless men. A girl enters the story, and her lever and she are captured by Kelts. Her real lover.. Clove endeavours. to save the .girl, but is frustrated.' Finally Gulden and Kells. cut: cards for tho girl. Gulden wins, and a fight follows, in which both are killed. The leading role is taken by Antonio Moreno. An erring father well as an erring daughter are the two centres of attraction in the second picture, "Daughters of Pleasure."
QUEEN'S THEATRE. The story of. "Occasionally Yours," now showing at the Queen's Theatre, is w'e.l pieced together, ar.d carries the audience along its lino of action with, keen interest. Present-day society life forms the theme, and tho stage settings are lavish and strikingly beautiful. Lew Cody plays the stellar role and others in the cast arc Elinor Fair, Lilian Bambeau, Cleo Ridgely, Gertrude Astor, Barney Sherry, Lloyd Hamilton, find William Quin. "Boots," a canine actor, lends much to the story. "Hearte of Oak" is the second feature on the programme Hobart Bosworth plays the leading role.
STRAND THEATRE. "The Family Secret," starring Ba-by Peggy, tho ]>opular and clever juvenile actress, is the headliner at tho Strond Theat.e. The story deals with family differences and a young man who is wrongfully penalised for housebreaking. The straightening out of resulting tangles is cleverly brought about. The second featuro is "A Man's Mate."
