GENERAL SMUTS'S CRITICISM. (by cable— phess association— copyright.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) CAPE TOWN, April 10. General Smuts, speaking at Worcester, vigorously attacked . tho Government's fiscal policy. He said that the British Preference policy adopted two years ago would help fcouth Africa more than tho Pact Government if it remained in office ten yeare. The result of the new Government's proposals wot:'d lx> that foreign countries would receive preference on 95 items wliile Great Britain would only prcteronce on 22 items. Groat Britain took 80 per cent, of South Africa's products and not only gave an open market, but preference over ether countries.
"The Pact's reply is to give Great Britain a smack in the face. Ido not know," added General Smuts, "-all tliat is behind this, hut I do know this, thai there is a secessionist policy in the background."
