There is good authority for stating that no match will take plaoe this year between the Boys' High School and Christ's College, whose annqal ltugby battle has in past years be«n a popular football attraction. The difficulty of obtaining the use of the Bbys' High School grounds was mentioned' yesterday as one of the obstacles in the way of the match, which was to have Keen played in the first week of July.

An added attraction to the Art Gallery at the Dunedin Exhibition will bo a collection of pictures from the Salon D'Hiver, 97 Rue De Rome, Paris. The Exhibition directors have received a communication from the salon advising that it would be glad to participate in the Art section of the Exhibition, and thai arrangements were now being made to get together a representative collection of pictures by French artists. Space equal to 2000 square feet has been reserved for tho hanging of these pictures in the Art Gallery. It is suggested that the collection should consist mainly of smaller pictures, not exceeding 40 inches by 30 inches of canvas, aud not more than 10 per cent, of the whole collection to contain pictures of larger sizes than thisCertain expanses in connexion with this collection will bo borne by the Exhibition Company,

Otlev) declared at yesterday's meeting of "the North Canterbury Hospital Board that it should be the policy of the Board always to recognise the services of old employees. Eogarding the proposed hospital loan, the Finance Committee reported at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board that the Minister had approved the Board raising £70,000 by means of debenture issue at 5J per cent., with a currency of J." years. It was proposed to take steDs at an early date to put debentures on the market.

"In many places, I understand, there is a lot of dissatisfaction with honorary staffs at hospitals." remarked the chairman (Mr 11, J. Otleyj at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury' Hospital Board. "That, happily, doe's not apply to the honorary staff at the Christchurch Hospital," he added. "Too much cannot be said iu their favour. If they were receiving a high salary they could not take more trouble than they arc taking." Breakages, according to a report made by the Hospital Committee at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, are a heavy item in hospital maintenance. The replacement in crockery, if was stated, amounted to between £6OO and £7OO per annum. It had been determined to obtain a return each month of the breakages in every department, with a view to ascertaining, if possible, who were the principal "culprits." Speaking of the Fresh, Air Home for children on Cashmere Hills during his address at the beginning of the annual meeting of the Nqrfh Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday, the chairman (Mr H. J. Otlev) quoted Dr. Blackmore as haying said that if he could get enough of such homes in the rest of the country, lie would undertake practically to stamp out T.B. among children. Inverting the Yankee humorist's philosophy, the Victorian Dental Association declares that he who advertises more than "a card" shall be "bust" (says the Melbourne "Age"). For long the Dental Board has been peremptorily flaying dentists who advertise by declaring them guilty of "infamous conduct," and imposing disabilities upon them; until the other day one of these turned resentfully and took the Board to court, where he complained that it was informant, .prosecutor, and judge against natural and technical justice, and won his suit. The Association then called Israel to its tents, and Israel, represented at a crowded meeting of dentists, members of two bodies, has decided to poll tho dentists of the State on the question to advertise or not to advertise by mean's of a referendum. Incidentally, it was stated that there are 1500 dentists in-the State, only about fifty of whom advertise "in the manner objected to."
