APPRENTICES ACT.
ME JUSTICE FRAZER'S COMMENTS. (PEESS- ASSOCIATION TELEGSAIt.) AUCKLAND, April 20. At the eitting of tho Arbitration Court, Mr Clark, on behalf of nine unions, asked for amendments to orders covering apprentices, •which, orders -wore the outcome of conferences between tho employees and the employers. Mr Justice Fr&zer said tlie Court had no power to mako alterations, unless by the individual application of an apprentice. There. ihad clearly been a misunderstanding between tho committee and tho Milliliter of I/abour when the mattero were discussed regarding the drawing up of the Apprentices Act. Mr Clark said that s:me who were apprenr tices before tho coming into operation of the Act were not being paid the same wages as the lad 3 since apprenticed. His Honour said the Court had no power to ma&e orders retrospective, except in individual applications. Mir Clark: That means wo ihacve to bring before the Court every individual apprentice with his parents'.' His Honour: Yes, but you must satisfy the Court that the apprenticeship was unfair at the tame it was entered into. If you take my advice, you will try to get the Act amended.
