CYCLING.
CLANDEBOYE CLUB. A cyclo road race promoted by tho Clandeboye Athletic Club was hold on Saturday afternoon. The roads had: been much improved by the recent heavy rains, and tho 13-mile courso proved a good means of testing tho capabilities of the eighteen competitors who faced the .starter. The following were tho results: —W. Hamlyn 33min-26sec, 1; J. Hogg (2min), 34min 11 1-osec, 2; W. O'Keefe (2min), 34min 11 2-sscc. 3. Others who finished close up were:—P. Kent 4, R. Brookland 5, M. Nolan G, G. Hawke 7, and D Underwood 8. The gold medal for fastest time was also won by W. Hamlyn, second fastest time being put up by B. Brookland with a timo of 33min 26 4-ssec. After the tuco tho prizes were presented by Mr W. 1?. Staniland.
An amusing story was. told by Sir Frank Benson at a luncheon given in honour of Mr John Barrvmore, the American "Hamlet," at the Lyceum Club, Piccadilly. "I remember• when I was much younger," said Sir Frank, ''playing 'Hamlet' in a barn. The sparrows twittered in the eaves, and rats ran in front of the footlights carrying powder-puffs. (Laughter.) When I arrived at 'To be or not to be,' I saw the audience getting excited. Then I heard a low growl, and saw behind me a large retriever dog evidently planning an attack. I drew my sword and drove him ofE the stage. When I had done so I found that the audience had bolted to see how the dog was." (Laughter.)
