AVENUE WALKS.
CLOSED BY ROCK KERBING. "I would lilce to ask the chairman of the Eeserves Committee," said the Mayor at the meeting of the City Council last night, "why it is that the rock kerbing along parts ofj Fitzgerald avenue has gone right round the ends, and not left a footway in.' the centre.'' Cr. E. H. Andrews (chairman of the Reserves Committee): The Works Committee did that work, not the Eeserves Committee. Cr. W. H. Winsor (chairman of the Works Committee): It was understood that the footpaths wero to be grassed over and enclosed. The Mayor: The whole of those avenues are declared footways, and you cannot block them. You destroy a beautiful walk between the trees. I cannot understand it. Cr. Winsor: The work has been going on for several months. Nobody said anything about. it till now. You are shutting the door after the stable has gone. (Prolonged laughter.)
