THE FARMERS AND WHEATGROWING.
TO THE XDITOB OF "THE PBKSS " Sii —I noticed in a recent issue of your paper, a letter signed "Two Shillings and Ninepenoe," suggesting that the fifty supposed level-headed who cannot grow wheat at 6s per bushel "ought to go home, and have their heads I lis a practical farmer, suggest' that "Two Shillings and Nine®!!ce" ought to go first to the phrenoffit With all due respects 1 would Sit that he should keep on inth not attempt the W 0 ™ takes money to buv wheat at 6s and 7s per bushel, but Ninepgooe," rST&rrar.sr'tf St i 4 r***
1.3 bushels peT acre : my crop of wheat took one ball of twine per acre at 8d par lb. My Council rates for 1923 were £23 12s, "rav land-tax for the same year was £6l 3s. I had to pay for my threshing by the hour, as the mill hands could not make it pay per bushel. I would ask "Two Shillings and Ninepence,'' where are the wages for all the year round coming from; I think I would have made more at bee-farming, especially if J had had '"'Two Shillings and Ninepence - ' to help me with all his knowledge. Hoping some abler pen than mine will take pity on "Two Shillings and Ninepence.'' and try to give him a little information on wheat-growing.—Yours, etc., A FARMER FOR FORTY YEARS. April 13th., 192,3.
