THE FRUIT CROP.
. « SEASON'S PROSPECTS. The Director. of tie Horticulture Division, Department' of Agriculture, has received, the following report from his officers regarding' orchard and marketing conditions in Canterbury at 'the end of October:— Apples—Nearly all varieties blossomed very heavily. Apricots: Blossomed very heavily; weather good during that period. Reports of heavy setting-. Cherries: Prospects for good average crops. Nectarines: Crops appear to be good. Peaches: Heavy setting on nearly all varieties. PeaTs:' Blossomed very heavy except- Winter Cole. Plums: Appear to have set well.* Plums (Japanese): Fairly heavy setting. Raspberries. Promising well. Strawberries: Weather too dry during August and September, but later rains have benefited them. Tomatoes: Prospects for heavy planting. Glasshouse plants vary from good to poor. Walnuts : Too early yet to make any forecast.
