ASHBURTON.

PERSONAL. The Borough Inspector, Mr J. R. Richardson, leaves Ashburton to-mor-row to spend a few days in Timaru. Mr J. C. C. McLauchlan, Crown Lands Ranger for Ashburton, left for 1 tho south on annual leave yesterday. Presbyterian. Mission. The Presbyterian Mission conducted by tho Rev. John Bissctt. -was continued at Flemington, Lagmhor, and Tinwald on Sunday, when, the speaker preached to large congregations. Tomorrow evening :Mr Bigsett will deliver an address oh Billy Sunday, the American evangelist, in the Tinwald Hall.

Chamber of Commerce. Arrangements have been made by the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce for the president of the Canterbury Chamber, Mr' Win. Macliin, to deliver an address in the A. and P. Booms tonight, when the speaker -will give au address on the subject of "Town and Country."

Lodge Social. There was a record attendance at the Hakatere Lodge Hall on Saturday night, on the occasion of a euchre party and dance promoted by the Sisters of the Daphne Rebecca Lodge. The evening's cntertaj anient proved very enjoyable, and the proceeds arc to be devoted to the forthcoming bazaar fund.

General News. Good results are reported to have been obtained by local anglers who visited the mouth of tho Rangitata over the week-end. Although the trovit were not in abundance, the catches ranged from 141b to 31b. Mr W. H. Mahoney, of Ashburton, recently had the misfortune to lose by fire a motor-truck loaded with •wood. From all accounts, Mr MahoJiey was on Saturday evening proceeding along the River road (about" four miles out) into Ashburton, when the engine backfired, and tho vehicle was soon enveloped in flames, with tho result, that only the chassis of the vehicle remains standing. The motor was insured for £75.
