The following Armistice Day message, cabled from General Birdwood, who is Ofiicer Commanding the Northern Com. raand in India, was received by Sir Jolm Monash in Melbourne on November 11th: —''Tho historic .days I spent ivith the gallant Anzacs have moulded memories I shall never forgetj memories of the faring and fine comradeship you all showed in many momentous actio'ns; memories of the sorrow for so many of my brave comrades who made the supreme sacrifice; their self-immolation, | -vvhicli is so proudly remembered by all I who fought willi them, and as its chief inspiration that- spirit of freedom and human uplift, -that has moulded the glory of the British Empire."
