COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIMAIRI. Tho "Wa-imairi County Council met last night. Present: Messrs J. S. Seymour (chairman), C. E. Cross, H. P&terson, T. O. Newnham, It. W. Hawke, W. J. "Walter, G. E. Curry, and G. Shipley. Tho electrician reported That sixteen new consumers had been connected in October, theso including six electric stobes andi six email motors. Additions for eaieting conisumers .totalled twelve, including 80 horsepower in motorß, and two electric stoves. Consumers and line troubles attended to during October and November totalled 109, including the replacement of decayed poles, replacement of baro lines with covered) wire, extending a four-wire supply ito' the golf links, Shirley, and the installation of an additional transformer at Belfast to oopo with a. 25 horso-power motor installed at the soap works, Belfast, in company with Mr Spencer, itlio Ascott Settlement was visited and positions for street lightiug were fixed as follows: Fleroington avenue, two lamps, and one at the corner of Beach road and the avenue; Pinewood avenue, one, and\ ono at tho junction with Beach road; Marriott's road, two, andi ono at tho junction with Beach road; a total of eight. Tho cost of tho poles, wiring, etc., was estimated at £HO. If tho work was to bo carried out, it would bo necessary for tho supply to be obtained from tho City Council's mains.
It tvis docided that tho work in connexion with the Ascott street lighting be proceeded with, the' work to bo ready by. April; a- 90 that tho Council take over the whole of the street and house lishtinj: in tho district from the Christchurch City Council. It was decided to erect notice boards in Birchfield avenue, Shirley, offering a reward for the dotevtion of pcoplo removing earth from the side o£ ilhe road without permission, iir Paterae, who brought tho matter under notice, stated that a® the result of the removal of quantities of earth in several places, some of the Council's electric light poles hnd been left bare. Tho foreman reported thai the Bryndwr loan channelling was proinsr on well. J«fI frey's road was almost finished from tho Bryndwr road to "tho railway. The south ■ Bide of tho Wairarapa, road, and tho side of Idris rood would then bo done. The main bridfto on Idris road had been finished, and tho foot-bridsre would soon be completed. It had been decided that it was not advisable to form j a footpath in Kins street, Burwood, as requested by Mr Bampton. I In connexion with tho supply of road mctr.t, it was decided to obtain quotations from the Paparua _ (bounty Council for metal from Birdling's Flat. The suggestion w&3 made by air Cross that the Couii;;;! should obtain a piece of land at Birrllins'a Flat for its owu supplies. ft was resolved to defer this question until a. »upp!y had beta obtained from tho Paparua, Council, in order to ascertain the cost. It was decided to call tenders for the supply of scoria for surfacing Xorth Beach roads. Xotice was received from tho Public Works Department of the intention to dismantle the low-tension eloctric liprht mains at Sunnyside Mental Hospital. It wg3 stated that the Council would lie under tho obligation cf purchasing tho mains used for tho Billniorten reticulation. It was decided to ask for particulars as to what portion of the mains the Council waa expected to buy. Messrs Brown Bros, wrote complaining of the bad condition of 'W oka. street, and expressing the opinion that the proportion of ra!o3 paid was very high in comparison to tho services rendered. _ The letter was referred to the foreman with power to act. A letter was received from Mr E. J. Lush, stating that Lansdown terrace was jn a> very unsafe condition in certain parts for motor traffic, end especially pedestrians, owing to the encroachment of gorse on the road.
