SHOPS' CLOSING HOURS.
EXEMPTIONS REFUSED. (SPECHT. TO "TH* ruw,"J WELLINGTON, November 22. A number of applications for extension of the hours of trading during the Christmas period was considered by the Co art of Arbitration. In view of the fact that the Court could not discriminate between the larger and the smaller shops in fairly congested localities, and that, if exemption from the provisions of the award wero granted To ono it would hatve to tie granted to all, it was decided to refuse the applications. The Shop Assistants' award already permits shops to remain onen until 10 p.m. on both Christ-Was Eve and New .icar's Eve.
