Mr 'Miller will b-? present at an induction ceremony in (Jhristchureh next week. Rural Mails. On Thursday. Mr J. K. BroadfoOt, Chief Postmaster, visited the Green-stroot-Ashburton Forks, and Alford Forest districts in connexion with a proposed rural mail delivery to serve the districts mentioned. Mr Broadfoot saw several of the residents, and discussed with them the establishment of the service. The prospects of the service being provided appear to be very hopeful.
Magistrate's Court. As the greater portion of the business to be transacted at the Magistrate's Court yesterday was postponed, the proceedings were heard before Messrs ,T. B. Christian and AY. 11. llundlc. J.P.'s. For riding a cycle at night without a light, Thomas Dawson, of AVaterton, was fined ss. and costs 7a. The charges against .Tamos Oliver Scott, including one of keeping liquor for sale, were adjourned until November 28th on account of his solicitor having to attend the Supreme Court at Christchurch. Bail was renewed. Judgment by default for the amountclaimed, with costs, was entered in each of the following cases: Jas. Gudsell (Tinwaldl v. Mark Roeti (Rakaia), £l3 lis lu: G. Alexander (Mt. Soiners) v. Chas. Harris (Reefton), £6 10s; W. H. Hunt v. Mrs Shilling, sen. (Tinwald), £4 4s. The evidence of plauitiff was taken in the ease of AY. F. AVoolley (Seaview) v. F. B. Ryan (Palmerston Xorth), claim £7O and interest or possession of a piano alleged to be detained by defendant. After the adjustment of certain costs/", the case was referred to Palmerston Xorth for further hearing. Farmers' Union.
At a meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union, Mr J. Carr presided in the 'absence of tho president, Mr John Brown. The secretary reported that there was a credit balance of £46 Is lid. Tho sub-committee sot up by the Wheat \lontrol Board to deal with the question, of wheat marketing reported that .they could not recommend any active steps regarding eo-operativo marketing of 1924-2o wheat. They had examined the information received from the Victorian Wheatgrowers' Corporation, and considered that the scheme they had adopted, with necessary modifications, could be adopted in New Zealand, if occasion arose. They recommended keeping the present organisation in existence for the collection and dissemination of marketing intelligence for one year, when the position should be reviewed. In ths meantime, the basis of an organisation, capable of being developed into an active marketing organisation working on the lines above recommended, should be established. In conclusion, they recommended that the Eoard immediately take steps to obtain the best and latest marketing information and publications bearing thereon.
Mr G. W. Lcadley said the motive which promoted the report in connexion ■with the suspension of further operations for one year was that the committee considered the farmers should be left to got the best price offering for the coming season. Mr Carr reported upon the steps the Canterbury Farmers' Union had taken to defend the threshing-mill hands' proceedings in the Arbitration Court for increased vrages. Mr Lcadley considered that the Union should financially assist the threshingmill owners in defraying the cost of their case against the employees. I < Mr F; Evans'said the matter required a great, deal of consideration. They were not a very strong financial Tiody, and had the mill owners lost their case the farmers would have had to "pay the piper." If the grant was made, the Union must, admit that the mill owners Were fighting the farmers' battle. ' It was decided, upon Mr P. Frampton's motion, to grant the sum of £lO towards the mill owners' expenses. Mr Lcadley produced six samples of Australian wheat bought by tho Now Zealand Government and Bold as milling wheat to millers in ■ Christchurch. The samples were (very poor specimens of grain and full of rust. Tinwald Domain Board. At a meeting of the Tinwald Domain Board, held yesterday afternoon, there were present: Messrs A. J. Milliehamp (chairman), J. Hampton, B. , "Wills, and T. E. Tarbotton. The secretary reported that there was a credit balance at the bank of £sl 14s 7d. Ho had inspected some boats at liedcliffs and suggested the purchase of a clinker-built boat. It was resolved that a specification be drawn up and a boat ordered. The caretaker -was instructed to estimate the amount of material that would be required to repair the fence on the north-east boundary.
The letting of the rights to cut cocksfoot in the Domain was left in the hands Tarbotton.
Tennis Association. At a meeting of delegates from the various lawn tenuis elubs in the county, held yesterday afternoon, it was decided to form a Mid-Canterbury Lawn Tenuis Sub-Association, to bo affiliated with the Canterbury Association. Mr P. Jackson presided, while the following clubs were represented: Te Marae. Ashburton, Seafield, Seaview, Tinwald, Methven and Chortsev. Mr Jackson said there were 18 clubs in the county, fifteen of which were either represented at the meeting or had announced their intention of supporting the formation of a sub-associa-tion. However, tho formation of such a body had been before the tennis clubs, aud the Canterbury Association had amended its rules enabling Ashburton to form a sub-association.
The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr P. Jackson; vice-presidents, Mr F. W. Seldon and the Kcv. A. H. Barnett; hon secretary and ' treasurer, Mr L. It. Clarke"; management committee, the president, vice-presidents, secretary, and Messrs E. Partridge (Ashburton), E. Buchanan (Te Marae), G. L. Hook (Mount Sorters), A. P, Bruce (geafield), and E. M. Pinfold (Ashburton); hon. auditor, Mr J. S. Laing; delegates to Canterbury Centre, Messrs L. J. Taylor and H. P.
