N.Z. SANITARY INSPECTORS.
CANTERBURY CENTRE. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Sanitary Inspectors' Association was held, at the offices of the Drainage Board On Thursday evening, the president, Mr J. T. Caldow, presiding over a good attendance. The president, in moving the adoption of the report and 'balance-sheet, said the activities of the Centre equalled, if not surpassed, those of prcyiou-5 years. A satisfactory balance to - credit was shown by the balance-sheet. Tho strength of the Centre was 23 members and i associate members. During i the year one member was transferred to the Dunedin Centre. He expressed the Centre's thanks to the Christchurch City Council, the Drainage Board, the Nelson City Council, the Ashburton Borough Council, and the Timaru Borough Council for the interest shown by them in the work of ■the Association, and also for granting leave to, and paying the expenses of, their inspectors who amended the annual conference of the Association. It was gratifying to find that these important local bodies recognised the good work being done by the Association, and the undoubted advantages gained by their inspectors in attending the conference and interchanging opinions and discuss.matters dealing with health and sanitAtion. The Syllabus Committee was complimented on having arranged six interesting nnd instructive lectures; these had been thrown open to students in sanitary ecience,and Quite a large number had availed themselves of. the privilege. Deferring to salaries, he said that as far as he was aware increases had not been general in the Centre's district. . The Christchurch Drama, o Bofird had. granted increases to its inspectors as from October Ist last, and trusted tlhat other : local bodies would fall into line in the near future. The rscently Jf s ued classification list* of the Public Service showed good increases to inspectors ot S3E wiXa minimum of £3OO per annum for second grade inspectors and a maximum of £4lO for senior inspectors.
