In the Magistrate's-Court Thomas Charles Williams, of Napier, pleaded guilty find Was committed for sentence on a charge of obtaining £2O from Emily Butler, licensee of the Mangartera Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque. Accused, who is eighty years of age, drove up in a Napier taxi, borrowed a pound from the license© to pay tho driver and subsequently represented himself as «n Australian cattle buyer in the Dominion looking for a farm for his son. Later ho exhibited a bogus cheque for £3OOO drawn on an Australian bank, and on the strength of this ho obtained an advance of £2O and disappeared the following day, being eventually arrested at New Ply-, mouth. He attributed his trouble to drink.
