NAURU PHOSPHATES.
SUPPLIES FOR FARMERS' WORKS (special to "th* phbss.") . WELLINGTON, November .20. Replying to a question before. Parliament adjourned by the member for Clutha, as to whether, in the event of the Farmers' Unions in the South Island deciding to erect crushing works at'convenient centres, ihe.Government will guarantee to supply such works with such quantities of Nauru phosphates as may be reasonably required, and at prices not exceeding those charged to the private companies, who have .the right to crush and who hold a monopoly of the trade 'at the present time, the Minister of Agriculture states that all sales of Nauru phosphates are now made by the Phosphate Commission.. Recently'' a- request of a somewhat similar nature for a supply in small quantity in the north was satisfactorily dealt with by the commissioners, and they no doubt will be glad to do their best in regard to ithe honourable member's request. The New. Zealand Commissioner has. been communicated with, and his -reply, when received, will be cony municated to the honourable member.
