A miniature general election is proceeding in the Irish Free State, in th« form of 14 by-elections. In South Dublin the election resulted: Lcmass (Sinn Fein") .. 1737 Hughes (Government) 16,310 Sinn Fein majority 057 The Dublin correspondent of the "Daily Express" says that the result of the South Dublin election is considered a bad blow for the Government, as it is believed tho Republicans' victory will influence enormously the polling in rural areas.

The North Mayo by-olection resulted:— Madden (Republican) ~ 14,028 Professor Tierncy (Trcatyito) 13,758 A WOMAN'S SUICIDE. WIFE OP DAIL MEMBER. (.UrSTRAUA.S AMD N.Z. CABLE AS lOCUTIOX.) (Bocoivcd November 20th, 10.45 p.m.) LONDON, November 20. Tho wifo of Darrcll Figgis, a member of tho Dail Eiroann, engaged a taxicab in Dublin and told tho driver to go to a distant part of tho mountains. The driver hoard shots and found his faro unconscious with ft bullet wound is the head. Mrs Figgis was taken to hospital and died there. At tho inquest tho husband gavo evidence that deceased's nerves had boon shattered by events during the past 10 years. Sho suffered severe pain from an injury to her neck caused by raiders at their house in 1922, -who, in her presence, cut off his beard. A verdict was returned of death from a wound self-infllctod while temporarily insane.
