WHAT IS AN ETCHING ?
Although, perhaps the majority of informed people of the present day know something about an etching, they do not know exactly what it is nor do they understand how it is done. However, an excellent opportunity is now afforded those who are desirous of becoming acquainted with the technique of this highly interesting development in the graphic art. A unique and comprehensive display has been arranged in the window and gallery of H. Fisher and Son, High street, including not only varied and masterly examples of the etcher's art, but also the tools, plates, and other articles belonging to the equipment of the craftsman. A printed card in the window explains concisely and clearly the details of the whole process. Work by the, following well-known artists is on view: Lee Hankcy, Blamfield, Nevison, Gaskell, and Baskctt, and also some charming prints by Eichard Wallwork, the well-known local artist.
Worthy of particular note is "Chelsea Beach," by Nevison, "Arch of Titus," by Herbert George, and three typical examples of Blamticld's fine work. Etchings to suit every pocket are exhibited, and a cordial invitation is extended by Mr 'Fisher' to all interested to visit the splendid collection on view in his galleries. —6
