ROYAL SHOW.
COMMENT ON REPLY TO
CRITICISM.
The reply made to criticisms of tho recent Royal Show and the references] made to the Canterbury Sho,w, as set out in the telegram from Piilmerston, North, published in yesterday's issue, wore mentioned by a reporter yesterday to some members and officers of the Canterbury A. and I*. Association with the view of getting their comments. The reporter found, however, that thero was no inclination on tho jwrt of thoso appravched to enter upon a controversy.
The secretary, Mr O. C. Dennistcn, in declining to make any statement on the subject, asked that it should be made quite clear that the criticism of the ltoyal £how, which appeared in "The Press" of tho Bth inst.," was nob inspired by him nor, as far as he knew, by uny memliers of tho General Committee' of the 'Canterbury A. and 1\ Association. A member of the Association's General Committee went the length of ssiying that tho Canterbury A. and P. Association had always welcomed criticism of the manner in which the Metropolitan Show was conducted because the Association realised tho value and importance of constructive criticism; it appeared to him that tho criticism indulged in at Palnierston rsorth had been of the destructive kind. However, there were two remarks of Mr J. M. Johnston with which lie thought tho Canterbury A. and P. would concur—that at future shows, where the Royal Society was concerned it would be necessary for the bodv where the show was being held to have supreme control; and that the schedules must be all Royal Show schedules r.nd not divided. In explanation of tho reference to schedules it should be stated that in the catalogue for the recent Royal know tno Royal Show entries in each class were printed ia red ink, tho other entries being printed in black, but tho entries lor both shows were printed together. The result is that prizewinners of stock not entered for tno lioycl Show could claim that they were awarded prizes at the Royal TuUa* v u I s , t l lai the entries for each show should be keot separate; iSf ° r n ? t tllis is to "*» dOTO l »' issuing separate catalogues or by keep!
