,Dr. Allan G. B. Fisher, 8.A., of Melbourne, has been appointed to the Chair of Economics at Otago University. The Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society has sent a letter of sympathy to Mr E. Snell in the 'death of his wife.

Eear-Admiral the Hon. Sir Hubert Brand, K.C.M.G., K.C.V.0., C.8., who was in command of the light cruiser squadron that visited the Dominion has been promoted to bo \ ice-Admiral in his Majesty's Fleet. Mr \ S. Tavlor, chairman of the Tramway Board", in a letter to the General Manager (Mr Frank Thompson) from London, dated October 9th, stated that he expected to leave on the 11th and to reach Sydney on November 20th.
Sir John Boss, of Dunedin, who retired from active participation in the conduct of the well-known firm of Messrs Ross and Glendinmg a year or two ago, will reach his ninetieth birthday on Monday. His many friends will be pleased to know that he u keeping in excellent health.
Mr W. E. Malcolm has been received into the ministry of the Presbyterian Church without probation. He is an om West Coaster and after going through Otago University, joined the ministry, and had charge of Ormond, Hawke s Bay Presbytery, from 1893 to 1894. For thirty years he was engaged in the China Inland Mission. Clutha Presbvterv recommended the application. "Mr"Malcolm is a brother of the Hon. A. S. Malcolm, M.L.C
