TRAMWAY BOARD.
# SPECIAL ORDER LOAN OF £12,000. The Tramway Board met yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs H. Pearce (acting-chairman), Geo. T. Booth, J. A. Flesher, D. Sykes, J. W. Beanland, W. J. Walter, S. A. Staples, and Hon. J.'Barr, M.L..C, A special meeting of the Board was first held, at which a special order was agreed to resolving to raise a loan of £12,000 for: (a) Part cost of new bridge over the Avon at New Brighton and track work in connexion therewith, £3500; (b) development of the Board's quarry at McCormick's Bay, including purchase of land, £4500; and (c) additions to repair shop, extension of fire extinguishing system, extension to overhead feeder system, and other incidentals necessary for the development and improvement of . the Board's existing tramway system, £4OOO. The loan is to be. repayable on or before April Ist, 1934; and a special rate of .009 dis struck to provide interest and sinking fund. This special order will be submitted for confirmation at the meeting of the Board on December 22nd, 1924.
Correspondence. The Minister of Public Works, acknowledging the Board's protest against the pooling of interest of the State's hydro-electricity schemes, wrote that he would be pleased to communicate further on the subject at an early date. The South Brighton Progress League wrote thanking the Board for promising to establish a bus service to serve South Brighton, and suggesting that Bellamy Avenue be the 2d section instead (as understood) Jervois street. The' letter was received and the suggestion is to receive consideration. The Heatheote County Council wrote agreeing that certain lights on Page's road be coloured to indicate tramway stopping places. The Woolston Band's request that the 2d section be extended to the entrance to the Woolston Park on the 29th iiist on the occasion of the fete to raise funds to enable the Band to defond the championship at Auckland next February was acceded to.
Eegarding the proposed balloon loop at North Beach the New Brighton Borough Council wrote stating that a committee had been set up and empowered to proceed with negotiations in this matter.
Messrs Sykes 'and Barr were appointed to represent the Board at the meeting regarding the Dunedin Exhibition next Monday.
