CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB. A meeting of the Canterbury Championship Collie Do? Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Mr J. B. Starky being in the chair. Thoso present included Messrs H. Little, H. Ingram, A. Brown, K. Campbell, T. Paterson, D. Pringle, E. G. Hunt, Jas. Smith, Hogg, Pollock, and tho secretary (Mr J. Kennedy), nearly all the collie dog clubs in Canterbury being represented. The balance-sheet of the recent championship meeting, held at Geraldine, was presented, showing a credit balance of £l2 18s 9d, including a. donation of £lO by the chairman, who presented a report on tho meeting. It was stated therein that although tho entries were not eo numerous as had been expected, tho competition was good, and the Geraldine Club was complimented on the efficient manner in which the trials were conducted. Tho adoption of tho report and balancesheet was moved by tho chairman and seconded by Mr Campbell, who spoke of the good the championship trials had'dono in encouraging competitors at club trials in order to qualify their dogs. Mr H. Little said he was disappointed when the championship trials were confined to winning dogs in Canterbury. He hoped the meeting would agree to have next year's championships open to all-comers. The chairman explained the reason for confining the meeting to Canterbury to etart •with, but said ho favoured maliTng it open next year. Messrs Paterson, Pringle, Smith, andi others spoke in favour of the championship trials being open. ) The report and balance-sheet wero adopted. Mr Smith moved, and Mr Paterson seconded, that it bo a recommendation to tho annual meeting to make the trials open to competitors from both Islands. The motion was carried .unanimously.
A general discussion took place as to where the next championship trials 6liould be held. The general opinion was that it Would be beneficial to have tho trials moved around, and eventually it was agreed to circularise clubs asking if they could offer ouitablo grounds where accommodation would be available for competitors and visitors. It ■was also agreed to ask clubs to forward remits to the annual meeting embodying suggestions regarding the conditions of tho championship trials. Mr Little proposed that club 3 bo asked to attend the annual meeting in March (first night of Ram Fair), if the dato was suitable, with a view to forming an association of Canterbury Collie Clubs, to be eventual.y extended to a South Island association. Mr J. B. Starky seconded the- motion, which was carried. The matter of points allotted in the heading event was discussed, and it was decided to recommend the annual meeting to adopt the following:—Heading 10, command 10, bringing back 10, holding 6, ring to pen 3, goneral style 5, yarding 6. Mr Jas. Smith suggested that remits bo asked for in January or February, bo that clubs would have time to meet and instruct their delegates. The suggestion was adopted. Mr N. Campbe.ll moved and Mr A. Brown seconded, "That the half circle around yard be deleted and that competitors stand within Teach of the gate in yard." The motion was carried. Tho secretary reported having met Mr Cuthbertson, secretary of the North Island Association, who extended an invitation to South Island competitors to attend the championship meeting at Gisborne. .Mr J. Smith, at the request of the Albury Ciub, brought forward the question of establishing a- stud Book in connexion with Collie Clubs. The suggestion was regarded Tvith favour, and it wis agreed to obtain further information.
