There is at present in''the Science Museum, at South Kensington an exquisitely carved prow of a' Maori war canoe, and the Council of the Auckland Museum has been advised that it might possibly be secured for the local institution. The matter -was discussed at the last meeting of the Council, when' Mr'H. E. Vailc mentioned that he had seen this prow while in England recently, and had been informed that it had been presented to the Duke of Edinburgh while in Xew Zealand in 1869, and taken by him to England. The Kensington authorities did not seem to value the exhibit, and Mr Yaile suggested that Auckland might make qn effort to secure it. .'The Council therefore decided to ap-' proaeh the London Museum, and offer some New Zealand article required by the Museum in exchange for the prow.
