MATSON AND CO.'S BULL SALE.
At Messrs H. Matson and Co.'6 bull sale on Saturday there was an entry of 147 bulls allocated as follows:—91 Shorthorns, 30 Friesians,. 21 Jerseys, o Guernseys and Ayrshires. There was a good attendance, which remained throughout the whole of the side. A large portion of the' entry showed to disadvantage in regard to condition, the • result of the shortage. :>f feed throughout the whiter, and to this w.as largely attributable the number of lower-priced animals as comp;ired with the. previous year. The milking strains of bulls on offer, with one or two exceptions, were unattractive. Good Shorthorns found a ready market, but many of them were rather young and for the most part wera offered in a rough condition. Many of the prominent breeders' bulls came forward in excellent condition and were a credit t<> them, and the prices recorded were an indication how the cxliibits were placed on the market. The following percentages give some indication as to how the sale went: — 90 per cent. Shorthorns, 65 per cent. Friesians. and 75 per cent. Jerseys. The following is a list of the principal sales, nothing being quoted under 10 guineas:— Gns. For North Canterbury Client.''' Yearling ' Shorthorn ■ bull—Mr F. Busch, Glenroy .. •..: • 11 For Mr Geo.
