ASSEMBLY.

REV. J. KILPATRICK THE NEW

MODERATOR. ■-,

(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)

PALMERSTON N., November 15. The election of the ModeratorDesignate of the General Assembly resulted in the appointment of John Kilpatrick, Green Island, Otago, who secured. ,100'votea, Mr "W. BJ. Bose (Christchurch) was second with '• 79;; votes'...' .. Congratulations are to be forwarded to the Rev, Jas. Patterson, : Wellington/ aged' 95, and the Rev* George Bfowrij*'Onehunga, aged 94. (SPICIAL TO "THE PBESS.") ' *> ' PALMERSTON N., November 15. At the Assembly, this morning the Rev. John Kilpatrick, of Dunedin,. was elected Moderator-Designate. The other candidate',: <Mr W. H, Rose, an elder of Christchurch, had a good vote, but it is almost impossible for an elder to attain to the chief office, because of the/Conservative custom-in the Presbyterian! : Church of reserving it for ministers. _ ...... In the absence of the Rev. Gray Dixon, the • convenor, the report of the .Committee on the Faith and Order • Movement was presented by the Rev. Jas., Milne (Thames); who explained the movement-as making for the promotion of Christian unity through study and conference throughout. Christendom. At the last great conference in Geneva every Christian Church in the'- world was represented except the Roman Catholic. .It was proposed to hold another conference in 1927, to which-the Presbyterian Church of the Dominion .was t invited to send • two . delegates.- -The movement did not aim so much at forming a union as creating a unity in which church unions could be formulated. The adoption of the report was seconded by' the Rev. Dr. Gibb CWellington), who declared himself a lover of incorporate union of churches where such was possible, but he had pleasure in seconding the resolution, as the movement' promoted unity, without which no union-was possible. Reference was made by Mr Milne to the "loss sustained by the death of Mr Hallowell Gardiner, whose zeal and generosity had : greatly helped the development of the movement. The Rev. J. - Morrison (Waimate), while not opposing the resolution, thought that caie'should be exercised as to.any" close association of Presbyterians with Sacerdotalists. The adoption"of the report was carried by the Assembly.
