A pleasant little ceremony took place at . tho Presbyterian General Assembly "... at Palmerston North this week, when 'the Rav. Alick McMeur, a Home Missionary of the Church, was presented with an illuminated address as a mark of appreciation, for his valuable pioneer work on the Central Ridge in the South Island, The Moderator (Rt. Rev. Geo. Miller) made the presentation on behalf of the Assembly, stating in so doing, that everyone knew, of tho fine work Mr McNeur had done.
Ihe .iSfydney University JSxtentyon Board proposes to invite Sir JUrnest Ruthertora, the well-known scientist, to deliver a course of lectures tralia next year. It has been suggested that the invitation should lie extended to include a visit to New Zealand. l At a meeting of the Victoria College Council this week it was stated that the Professorial Board approved of the suggestion, and the action of the Board was endorsed by the Council. Mr, Robert Crompton, of Fiji, has been advised by the Acting-Governor that ho has been appointed to be a King's Counsellor. Mr Crompton commenced his legal career in Lancashire and was admitted to the Fiji Bar in 1904, and ho soon built up a large and prosperous practice. Mr Crompton was awarded the C.B.E. for his excellent work in connexion with the Bed Cross money-raising scheme.
Our Gisborne correspondent telegraphed last night: A visit has just been paid to th© eite of the Tolaga Bay Wharf by Mr C. B. J. Williams, of consulting engineer to the Tolaga Bay Harbour Board.
