The local first eleven play Christ's College fourth on Hagley Park this .afternoon,.. second eleven play Linwood B on the local sports grounds. ■•'■<■■<--;■■•■ -South Brighton.' ;•- A euchre party was held in the Bridge street Hall on Wednesday evening in aid of the South Brighton gala fund. Tho prize-winners were:—Ladies: 'Mrs Jacobsen 1, Mrs Sogers 2. Gentlemen: Mr Cross 1, Mr Scarr 2. Consolation, Mr Chegwin.
School Picnic. The annual picnic of the Methodist Church Sunday • School was held in the South Brighton' Domain yesterday. The Eev. F.'T. Read and Mrs Bead accompanied the picnickers, a great number of whom were conveyed to the ground by motor-lorries. During the afternoon races and games were held, the scholars thoroughly enjoying themselves. The outing was one of the most enjoyable ever organised by the church members. School Committee. The School Committee, met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. F. Ward (in the chair), the Eev. F. T. Read, the Eev. C. W, I, : Maclavef iy, Mrs Janet Bellamy* Messrs W. E. Lawry, E. A. Langford, J. Buxton, and H. A. Gflasson (secretary). Correspondence was received from the Board, stating that Messrs Muirsonland Thompson would inspect and- report on the question of- purchase of additional land adjoining the recently site at South Brighton; that the architect had been instructed to prepare an estimate of the cost of installing an up-to-date heating system throughout the main school; that the Board would supply 50: hat and coat hooks and place same in position; that the resignation of Miss D. L. Irvine, assistant mistress in the South Brighton School, had been received and accepted. The ..Christchurch Gas Company wrote asking for/the cost of a 6ft iron fence between the school and iis property, with a view to sharing the cost. The headmaster's report; showed the roll number to be: Main School 729, South School 63. It was decided to present prizes again this year, and leave the question of future distribution to, the nexff meeting of householders. It, was reported-that the , temporary portable school for South Brighton would be ready for erection laext week. A motion of .-.thanks and appreciation was passed to Mrs Janet Bellamy for her good work in connexion with the children's dress party on Labour Day the net proceeds... of which amounted to £ll Is sd. The Eev. F. T. Read and Mr J. Buxton were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
