SCOTTISH CONCERT.
Tho first- of two grand. Scottish, concerts, promoted by the Canterbury, ; Caledonian Society ;was 'given in tlie Caledonian Hall last night. There ,uaa a, ' largo; attendance, over which- Mr 0. S'. Thomas presided. A welt selected. programmo' of Scottish songs Highland dances ■was submitted, and received with marked appreciation, recalls being the order of the evening.. . Tho programme opened .with a eeloction of Scottish airs stirringly played by-the 1 . Society's Pipe Baud. , Ma-damo ,Gower Burns, wn>> was in excellent voice, sang- "Loch Lomond" and was' successful in bringing out all the tender pathos, of the .words. Other ■items ■ given were: —"Hail, Caledonia," Mr A. Macdonald; Highland Fling, r Mifcs Emily Turner; "Tho Bonnets of Blue," Mr Fairquhar Young; Irish Jig, Misses E; Turner and B. Pocock; "The' Waggle o',the Kilt," Mr Bracey Wilson;, Highland Reel, Misses M., Neatc, J. Staunton, M. Irvine and J. Craig "My Ain 'Folk," Bessie ■ Thompson; Seapn Triubhais; Miss Doris Bell; "Sandy's Holiday," Mr Bracey 'Wilson; Gillie Calmn, Misa Lily McCall; ''Huntjngtower," Mr and Mrs / Farquhar "Young'; "My Heart'"is Sair for Somebody," Mies Dorothy Spiller; Saxophone • Solo. (Scottish Airs), •Mr a. J. Clarkson, and Heel o' TullocH, Misses E. Turner, D. Bell, .L., McCall and' B. Craig. The accompaniments ior the'vocalists were capably plajred by Mine .Eileen Warren. The second con'celrt will be given this evening,, when Madame Gower Bums is,to sin'' "Annie Laurie,". Mr and Mrs Farquhar Young will give the duet, "The Crookit Bawbee." New items will be 'given by, those wHo contributed to last night's programme.
