COUNTY COUNCILS

CHEVIOT. At the last meeting of the Cheviot County Council there were present Crs. J. H. L. Hiatt (chairman), T. Stevenson, Gr. L. Rutherford, W. L. i'oster, D. McLaren, A. D. Anderson and S. Douglas. A doputa.f.on waited on tho Council with a petition signed by a large number of ratepayers, praying for the early erection of a bridge over a eiream on the northern end of tho McMillan road. It was stated that owing to alterations in the bed of . the AVaiau River Ibis stream was being affected to such an extent that it was becoulng impassable for sheep and motor trafSc. The Council resolved that the erection of a bridge would be considered fct next meeting and instructed the engineer to prepare plana and an estimate.

The Department of Agriculturo forwarded the "Gazette" notice of the Spei'-al Order in which gorse and broom have been declared noxious weeds. It was resolved that the clerk j f ve notice to offenders that road frontages must .-be cleared at onoe of these weeds. Notice was received from the Internal Affairs Department approving of that portion of the Council's by-law dealing with vehicles plying for hire. , ' The Public Works Estimates were Tecil.ved and considered. It was Agreed that tho erection of the- Caroline Stream Bndge be gone on with, and tho engineer was instructed accordingly.
