NORTH BEACH NOTES.
A meeting of.the North Beach Gala Committee was held on Wednesday, when there •were present: Messrs Reaver (in the ch%ir), Barker, Beverett, J. F, Wilson, Uren, "White, Rowlands, Mall&sch, Bowles, Hutton, Norxie, D. 'Wilson, and Scott, Megdames D. Wilson, McGillivray, Taylor, Richards, Uren, and Barker. ■ The chairman moved a. motion of sympathy with Mr R. Snell in his recent bereavement, which was passed in eilence, ail standing. ( The meeting pawned & motion of sympathy with Messrs Leaver and Bneh in the destruction of their business premises by fire. The secretary reported that the Gala. Publio Schools' championship roee bowl which should have been presented to the Woolston School was among the things destroyed by fire. The secretary was instructed to procure another trophy immediately. The secretary reported that in reply to the Gala Committee's application, the Anglican Church Committee 'had agreed to a reduction in the charge for the use of tin piano for social functions. The Uast Queen Committee reported that it intended holding functions on .November 22nd and 29th, and the North Committee a children's fancy dr&sa party on tho afternoon of November 22nd, while a concept for the gala would he arranged for December 6th. The eub-oommittee arranging' the prim-, ary school*' championship events presented' a programme, the previous one having been burnt in the fire, when ready for the. printer. It was agreed to add a primary schoolboys' resuscitation competition, which the Surf Club would be asked to run oa Gala Day. The two hoys from the Brighton Scouts who have been to England with the Arawa Patrol, arrived hack in Chriatcihurch yesterday by the ferry boat. Bath Scout Arthur Hydo and Scout Boy March look the picture of health, arid both declare St haa boon a wonderful trip. They were met at tho station by officials of the looal Association #4d also their old Scoutmaster, Mr G- W. Bishop. Tho boys are to be the guosts of thoir old troop at a "camp fire" in the Par 4 whiti Domain, New Brixton, next Tuesday evening. Scout Arthur Hydo will now become Assistant Sooutmaster, New Brighton C Troop, while a. similar position will he found for Scout' Roy Maltoh.. . , The North Beach School Committee met on Wednesday evening in the Surf pavilion when therb were ' present: Messrs Leaver (chairman), Bush (secretary), Fenn, Jnatono, "Uren, and Freeborn, and the Itev.W. F.. Knowles. The 'headmaster, m W. F. WilBon, wm also present and reported the roll number to be 249, with an average attendance of 208. He also rep or fed that tho school had been visited by Mr Blank, -the Truant Officer, who was dealing with certain oafies of non-attendance. At the-suggestion of the headmaster, a vote of thanks wag paesed to all the workers who had assisted in making the recent echool fete such a succe». A motion of condolence with Mr K. Snell in his reoent bereavement waa passed. A vote of sympathy was passed with Hesarre Leaver and Bueh in the loss of their business premise by fire. A letter was received from the Education Board stating that plana were being prepared with a view to making application to tho Department for a. grant for additional accommodation. Iho chairman reported that the seeds for the school Eftldene gi™ b ? 111 J °hansen which were destroyed in the recent fire were being reof the executive of tho North\ Beach Foreshore Improvement Society was held in tho Surf Club's pavilion, there bein? present: Messrs Leaver (chairman), Bush, Hutton, D. Wilson,, Barker, BowWa and J. I - Wilson. The chairman reported that debentures were being taken up satisfactorily and that the building of the memorial was well under way. ■ It was reported that Mr F W. Freeman had taken up a debenture and had given it back to the. Society.
