A meeting of.the North Beach Gala Committee was held on Wednesday, when there •were present: Messrs Reaver (in the ch%ir), Barker, Beverett, J. F, Wilson, Uren, "White, Rowlands, Mall&sch, Bowles, Hutton, Norxie, D. 'Wilson, and Scott, Megdames D. Wilson, McGillivray, Taylor, Richards, Uren, and Barker. ■ The chairman moved a. motion of sympathy with Mr R. Snell in his recent bereavement, which was passed in eilence, ail standing. ( The meeting pawned & motion of sympathy with Messrs Leaver and Bneh in the destruction of their business premises by fire. The secretary reported that the Gala. Publio Schools' championship roee bowl which should have been presented to the Woolston School was among the things destroyed by fire. The secretary was instructed to procure another trophy immediately. The secretary reported that in reply to the Gala Committee's application, the Anglican Church Committee 'had agreed to a reduction in the charge for the use of tin piano for social functions. The Uast Queen Committee reported that it intended holding functions on .November 22nd and 29th, and the North Committee a children's fancy dr&sa party on tho afternoon of November 22nd, while a concept for the gala would he arranged for December 6th. The eub-oommittee arranging' the prim-, ary school*' championship events presented' a programme, the previous one having been burnt in the fire, when ready for the. printer. It was agreed to add a primary schoolboys' resuscitation competition, which the Surf Club would be asked to run oa Gala Day. The two hoys from the Brighton Scouts who have been to England with the Arawa Patrol, arrived hack in Chriatcihurch yesterday by the ferry boat. A letter was received from the Education Board stating that plana were being prepared with a view to making application to tho Department for a. grant for additional accommodation. The chairman reported that debentures were being taken up satisfactorily and that the building of the memorial was well under way. ■ It was reported that Mr F W. Freeman had taken up a debenture and had given it back to the. Society.
