His identaty was never traced, but it w evident that he was fabulously, rich, He cently increased his fortune greatly by property speculation and) diamond speculation. „ , „jj The police state that Kate was called at midnight into an ante-room of his magnificent apartments where too assassin, after speaking a few words, shot him dead. Kate waa a man or many lores. Among his letters wore found a number from a well-knownl The whole affair is a mystery. The police at Chicago are .seeking to unravel the murder of Daniel OBannion, who reputedly made l,cqu,wu dollare in the bootlegging business. O'Bannion was called out of a store, ■where he sold funeral wreaths, »y three gunmen who shot him dead «na escaped. It is reported that the gunmen were former associates or 'J nion and that the crime was the outcome of his informing upon them.
