GENERAL VON NATHUSIUS.

A representative of the German Embassy stated that the Embassy asked M Herriot to grant General von Nathusius provisional liberty en bail if necessary in older to allow him to prepare a defence. It is pointed out that he is 68 years of age and in ill-health. He emphatically denies the charges against him. A (visit was mad© to ii" s house in ! 1919 at Coblenza, when. nothing was discovered. The American authorities were of the opinion that the accusation had failed and allowed General von Nathusius to go to Cassel. He was not aware that a ccurt-martial at Lillo in 1921 had sentenced him in default. He was not in the list on war criminals, and therefore believed that lie was free from all danger. [General ron Nathusius. a German general who c3.ni© to Franc© on the occaeion of the feast of All Saints to (visit the grave of his father-in-law, was arrested at Forbach, Lorraine, in connexion with the theft of furniture, and on that charge was sentenced to fire years' imprisonment.]
