Lady Forbes-Robertson (Sliss Gertrude Elliott); who has returned .to England frcm her two years'* tour of the Southern . Hemisphere, - finds startling changes in English and French women. "When 1 went away," she safd, in an interview, "women were powdering their noses in public; how they make up their faces entirely between the courses at meals in restaurants. In. fact, tho make-up they go in for now on these occasions .reminds me exactly of the make-np process that we us& on the stage. Certainly it is just as complete. I was surprised, too, at tho shades of make-up that 1 saw used in Paris — combinations of mauve and orange that were becoming to wemen with dark complexions. Shingling, too, has become the craze since I went away, and I must say I think a sleek, wellattended shingle is exceedingly becoming, but if short, hair is the slightest bit 'moth-eaten' "behind, where it ought to be well grocmed, it is nsly. In Melbourne the shingling craze had just'arrived when I left. Melbourne, without 'doiibt, is one of the smartest cities ir» the world.
