THE NORTH CANTERBURY SHEEPFARMERS' CO-OPERA-TIVE FREEZING, EXPORT, & AGENCY COMPANY, LTD.
[PpBMSHED UT ARRANGEMENT.]
A NOTABLE FARMERS' BUSINESS
The North Canterbury Slieepfurmers' Freezing Company arc again to the fore with an exhibit of products from their works at Kaiapoi. Nothing, indeed, is a more practical demonstration of the advantages of co-operation than is the success that has attached itself to this "Sheepfarmers' " Company. From a small beginning, in most difficult times, step by step tho Company has gone on. Its object was to secure to producers full value for their stock, and to insure them against abnormal conditions being used for their exploitation. In both it has succeeded. Tho Company itself is guided and owned by sheepfarmers and those interested in stock. It works for tho interests of the farmers, who are its clients as well as its owners and from the slieep-farming community it deserves, as it is gaining, the greatest support. Hotr troll that support 5s merited and how loyally the Company is fulfilling its self-imposed duty to the producer is so well known that further comment is unnecessary. Its exhibits on the ground aTe outstanding proofs of its ability to prepare the farmers' output in the best manner possible for the market. In proof of tho success achieved by this Company, it may. be said that on several occasions, last year, products from their works, in the face of world competition, topped tho London Markots, and of higher praise there can be none. Tho following unsolicited comment from a London firm very favourably known in Now Zealand speaks for itself: — "After careful examination, we are pleased to state that the quality and general get-up of these carcases left nothing to be desired; in fact, they were • the best and most level lot of lambs we have seen this season from New Zealand." Thus has the Farmers' Freezing Company forged ahead. No finer exhibits in the world may be seen than are in this show of 1924, as exhibited by tlie N.C.F. Company. The lambs are topped off to the nick, anjl are an excellent illustration of what is required by tho English consumer, and fhe class of export required to maintain tho great reputation that has been gained by "Prime Canterbury."
Then in their by-products the Company is also scoring successes. It was not many years ago that, they showed in the same place a fine assortment of pelts, tallow, and wool. It was an initial effort, but one that has borne great fruit, Tear after year, the products liavo shown an.advance in quality , and have attracted more and more stj tention, both locally and overseas. Today the N.C.F. brand stands second to none in New Zealand. It is an exhibit well worth studying, as tho efforts of a Company bent .on serving in every possible way the interests of its cliOnts. It serves the farmers' interests in other ways also. In the preparation of Manures tho Company is gaining an unrivalled reputation. The number of farmers using its manures lias redoubled in the last twelve months. All thoso who have | tried these manures speak in the highest | praise of the excellent results achieved by their uso. TJio manure is rich in j nitrogeu aud phosphates, .and besid* I stimulating tho field activity it builds up and permanently improves tho ground on which it ia used. Tho exhibit of bacon and hams will undoubtedly attract the attention of all, as tho excellent; quality of the "Harp" brand is so well and favourably known. It is permanently established in both Australia and England, and neither locally nor overseas has the squpremacy of its "euro" been seriously challenged. 'ln'tho work that tho North Canterbury Froczing Company haß done, and is still cloing, for tho primary producer, in its growth, and in its success, it has a record of'which it may bo justifiably* The outstanding success achieved by this Company shows what cijn b» done by true co-oporation in a business owned by farmers, and controlled by their nominees whose interests are identical with those of tho farming community.
