AN EXPERIMENT WHICH FAILED.
DANGER OF ASPHALT ROADS. The various "authorities who have control of road construction in this country should take heed of a gigantic blunder that has recently occurred in England, where a magnificent 30 miles stretch of the North" road (one of the most important in England) has been laid down with an asphalt composition. When dry, it is perfect, when wet it has earned for itself the title of the "30 miles skid,'' and is so dangerous that it is only at great personal risk, that motorists use this stretch when in a wet condition. ,• The road cost millions to construct, and what was anticipated was going to be the best road in England, is now a veritable death trap. The authorities now realise their mistake,- and are much concerned as to how they are going to make the road usable" and safe in wet weather. .The composition of that road should be made public in this country, so that our authorities may be warned against a similar blunder.
