THE WHALING EXPEDITION. (special to '-'the press.") INVERCARGIL, November 11. From Christiania, via Suez and Hobart; the Norwegian whaling steamer, Sir James Clark Ross, arrived in Foveaux Strait, off the entrance to Bluff Harbour, yesterday morning. The lUrbcur Board's tug Theresa Ward, went out to put aboard the Customs and Health Officers, together with Captain Hooper, of the Mann* Department, after which the Sir James + Clark itoss left for Glory Cove Stewart Island, where she will meet the five chasers left at anchorage there en the return from last season's whaling expedition. The fleet will then a five months' cruise of the whaling grounds of lloss Sea, returning to the Dominion about April, neyt year. In the course of a short talk with a "Southland Times" reporter, Captain C. A. Larson, who is in command of the fleet, said a good season was confidently hoped for. On,last year's expedition, which did not prove altogether the success desired, the party had been handicapped to a certain degree by lack of acquanfance with the region explored, and cf the conditions to be faced, but now, with the experTencj gained on that expedition, it 'was expected that 'their endeavours would be crowned with a much greater measure of success.
