U.S.A. SENATE.
DEATH OF LEADER. ■i QUESTION OF SUCCESSOR. tzt CABLE—PBZSS ASSOCIATION—COpVMMtT) (AUBTBALIAN WD »- z ' CABLIS ASSOCIATION.) NEW YORK, November 10. Senator Lodge's death reopens speculation regarding his. successor in the Republican leadership in the Senate. Those who by seniority are entitled to tho leadership aro known to prefer less strenuous tasks, and therefore Senator Wadsworth, of New' York, soems to be the most likely inheritor. Moreover, the situation necessitates important changes in the personnel of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It will bo remembered that Senator Lodge, through a series of reservations, caused the Senate to reject the Treaty of "Versailles.
Senator Borah, in view of his long service, will probably succeed Senator Lodge in the chairmanship of the Senate. The Administration officials take unkindly to Senator Borah's impending elevation, because he has outspokenly criticised the Secretary of State's Russian and other foreign policies. Nevertheless, Senator Borah's distinguished record is oxpected to outweigh partisan objections in view of bis ability and seniority.
