The Eight Eev. Dr.-J. Cumming, retiring, Moderator, presiding over 400 representatives. of the. Church, preached an able sermon from Hebrews 8-5. He then. introduced the . nojr. Moderator, .the. Eight'Eev. George Miller, of 1 North ' East "Valley,''Dunediri, 'who then took the, .chair arid; addressed the Assembly, on the paramount needs of the Church to-day, and the. preaching 1 of the old evangelf . need of passion and earnestness in its presenta-tion,-and the Divine power of the spirit. The fonnal business, was. then . transacted, and important committees appointed. The session re-opc'ns this morning, when communion will be held, and the Life and Work Committee's report received.-.
