LORD JELLICOE.
AUCKLAND'S AFFECTION. A MEMORABLE DEMONSTRATION (*MSS ASSOCIATION TBLXaBIM.) AUCKLAND, Novomber 4.
A moinorable demonstration of popular affection will bo Lord and Lady Jollicoe's last and happiest memory of Auckland. Several thousand people assembled at tho railway station- to bid them farewell when they left for the south on the Main Trunk express. The first Battalion of tho Auckland Regiment provided a guard of honour. As the party turned to enter the station the band accompanied the singing of "Auld Lang Syne," which was followed by cheers. Then came the most remarkable tribute of all. His Excellency stepped forward to acknowledge the ovation, but the occasion overcame him, and his speech resolved itself into one word. With a mighty wave of his naval cap he shouted, "Good-bye," thousands waving back their response. Then three sides of the people collapsed, and they closed about the ViceRegal party, which, in single file, entered the station amidst hand-shaking and expressions of farewell.
