UTILITY POULTRY CLUB.

The New Zealand L T tility Poultry Club met last night, Mr G. H. Bradford presiding over a fair attendance. Mr J. B. Merrett, reporting on egg-judg-ing at Papanui, wrote'that the quality of the e-ga for market purposes was excellent, though the average weight and size were below what are required for high-class and export trade. A vote of thanka was accorded Mr Merrett and it was decided tna-t the Government experts be asked to allow not more than three members of the club to accompany them, when judging, for educational purposes. ~ ,-, .-, It was decided to writ*, to Mr F. Griffin) reported ; that he had resumed duty after having been laid up for several months. The birds were looking very well for the time of the year; most of them had gone through their heaviest laying period. The ducks were also doing WBll after a very patchy season. Eggs sent to market during October: —633 dozen hens' and 84 dozen ducks'. A bird in No. 7 pen (Mr Bennett's) died during the month. Mr R. W. Hawke reported that the bird died of severe inflammation. The caretaker's report was adopted. The treasurer (Mr W. H. "West) reported that receipts to date totalled £563 Is sd, expenditure £515 6a 3d, balance to credit £47 15s 2d. The report was adopted. Mr W. E. Green, on behalf of the Supervising Committee, reported that a visit was paid Inst Saturday, when things were found satisfactory. The report was adopted, and the committee was thanked for carrying out the duties in such ine'ement weather. A free discussion ensued regarding the club's educational meetings, and several members gave their views on the reason whv the meeting were not better attended, and on the remedy for thia state of affairs. No resolution wns arrived at on the subject.
