MAGISTERIAL. SATURDAY. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Christina Mills, who pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness for the second time within six months, was convicted and fined 20s, in default three days' imprisonment. A male first offender ivw convicted and fined 20s, in default 4S hours' imprisonment. YOUTH'S LrAPSii. A youth, 16 years of age, publication of whose name was suppressed, and who was represented by Mr !■'. W. Johnston, pleaded guilty to four charges of having stolen bronzed vases and cutlery of a total value of £7 Is. Chief-Detective T. Gibson said that the lad was employed by Armstrong and Farr, and recentlv several articles were missed from the shop. The articles, which were the subject of Iho charge, had been taken to tho firm by various people to be repiated, but thev disappeared and the accused was suspected. The matter was placed in the hands of the police, but when a detective went to the lad's home his another defied him for some time and when eventually he did enter she gave him no assistance. The vases were found on the mantc.piece and some of the cutlery hidden in a gramophone. Mr Johnston said that the bov had suifored an inexplicable lapse. His mother had never suspected anything until he took home some knives and spoons, and then she told him to take them back, but he had forgotten to do so. When the police arrived at her house s) > was nervous. The hoy's parents were vesnectable and counsel asked his "Worship tn suppress bis name. The Ma'istrate- adjourned the case fill Thursday for the nurpOflo of allowing the ■Trobalion Officer to report.
