SUNDAY TENNIS.
THE ISSUE IN LINWOOD CLUB. The committee of the Linwood Tennis Club have decided whole-heartedly to oppose the desire of those members who wish to engage in the recreation on Sunday and to resign en bloc should the motion authorising Sunday tennis be carried at the special meeting of members to be held on Tuesday night. In view of this uncompromising attitude, it is now expected that the Sunday tennis issue, however decided, will result in a bitter and permanent cleavage in the club, for resentment against a policy of threats and intimidation designed to sway a. decision will not be easily alloyed. The opinion of the genem! body of members was up to the present that of a. loyal acceptance of whatever decision was arrived at bv the general meeting, but the action of the committe in threatening to throw the club into a temporary state of confusion should the side they espouse not prevail introduces c. new and altogether discordant element into the question.
Ihe meeting on Tuesday night will probably bo marked by some plain speaking.
