RHODES SCHOLARSHIP.
E. S. CRAVEN NOMINATED. Mr E. S. Craven has been nominated by the Professorial Board as the Canterbury College candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship for 1924.
Mr Craven is ivell known in Canterbury as a footballer and boxer. On the football field he has represented Canterbury College first fifteen for four years. In addition he has represented the New Zealand University, the South Canterbury province, and has been selected for the Canterbury provincial representative team in boxing, Mr Craven lias represented Canterbury College in the heavy-weight championship of New Zealand for the past four years. Last year he won his weight, and in the previous year secured the Fairmaid Cup. Other athletic activities include rowing, cricket and swimming. Mr Craven has a. good record, too, in the scholastic world. He recently gained his M. A., degree with second class honours in history. In 1920 he gained his teacher's "B" certificate, and since then has held different positions in the teaching profession. He is at present on the staff of Timaru Bovs' Ilieh School. Mr Craven is an old boy of Timaru High School, where he -was prominent in many branches of athletics. While at school he gained a Junior National Scholarship, and a Senior National Scholarship in 191 C, qualifying for matriculation in the same year. The Otago University nominee * for the Khodes Scholarship this year is also an old boy of Timaru High School.
