DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.
TO THB EDITOR OP "TEH PRESS." £[,-_ I was pleased to poo the article in the ry.lnmns of "The, Press- on Tuesday in reference to tho Dunedm International Exhibition, which is to bo opened in November, mb, asking for a'tnoro liberal outlook in regard to -tljo same. Having occasion to bo m Dunedin last week. I was taken by tho courtesy of some of the. directors to the Mtp and was 'vtrv much impressed with the position, and the work which was going on. The. Exhibition will cover (i\ never, of what, was one of the most unsightly plaecs in and around Dunedin, and practically at tho iront door of tho city. Owing to tho energy and ro-oeeration of the authorities, with the' Harbour Board, this has new been reclaimed, and made into firm ground, which after tho Exhibition is to bo planted and used as a park and playground for Dunedin. I'rom the plans shown me, tho exhibition will bo the largest and best of its kind over hold in tli6 Dominion. The court, with its domed building arid colonnade?, fountains, and flower plots will be verv striking and pretty, while the motor building will cover fix acres, and the other buildings aro in the same proportions. T'lTo grit and energy which our Dunedin friends aro putting into the work will meet with success, and will attract [visitors from ail parts cf tho world, which will not only benefit Dunedin, but tho wholo of New Zealand .
The rights or wrongs of t.ho dispute between tbe Industrial Associations and Dunedin, I do not wish to enter into. The former has made a very strong protest and decided net to exhibit. The Dunedin people are behind this Exbibij tiou and as a people they have the j right to say whether it fehall he a local one, or international, and they decided upon the. latter, with a strong financial backing. Ocner cities nave nnd international exhibitions, Christchureh included, and Dunedin is justified in having one, if it suits her. As parts cf tho Dominion will be exhibiting, it behoves Christchureh that .she shall exhibit also, so as to bring her products in lino with other- competitors, and although the Association cannot exhibit there, is no reason why individual firms should not exhibit. AYo have had enough of cross purposes during tho past fifteen years. Lot any unpleasantness that now exists be swept away, and jer, u.s oik; ami ;>•: wish our Dunedin friends a full measure, of success, in this, their undertaking. — lours, etc., HENRY J. MABEINIiTw October 30th.
