MR STRONACH PATERSON.
FAREWELL LUNCHEON BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Mr iStronach Paterson, who recently resigned from the position of president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, was the guest of the Chamber at luncheon at Ballantync's yesterday on the eve of his approaching departure for .England. Mr W. Maehin, president of the Chamber, was in the chair, and there was an attendance of about fifty members. Apologies were received from si large number who were unable to be present. The work done for the Chamber by Mr I'aterson was eulogistically referred to |>y the chairman and Messrs Xorfon Francis (vice-president), ('. H. Hewlett, K. H. Wyles, J. A. Frostick, and W. Hayward, and the Mayor (Mr J. A. Flesher), who spoke oii behalf of the citizens.
In acknowledging the remarks of the speakers Mr Paterson expressed the hope that he might have the good fortune to come back to Christchureh and resume his activities 011 behalf of the Chamber.
At the conclusion of the function, by n. happy inspiration, the president and vice-president were asked to convey to Mrs Paterson the handsome bowl, tilled with roses, that decked the centre luncheon table, with the Chamber's good wishes and expressions of its appreciation of what her husband had done in furthering the interests of the Chamber during the period lie was a member of it. Messrs Macliin and Norton Francis duly made the presentation to Mrs Paterson, who was agreeably surprised, and who was greatly pleased with the form in which the Chamber's appreciation was expressed. Mr Paterson leaves in a week or two for Wellington en route for England.
