Throughout the journey the accommodation was good and tiie tariff reasonable. The attention shown bv Messrs oTallinn Brothers at. the Glacier Hotel and Mr Cook in charge of the Lake Kanieri launch was appreciated. Great assistance was rendered the party bv Mr Pavfield. of the Tourist Department, in Christ-church, who went *r» considerable trouble in asc-oriaining the state of the roads, etc-.

PARNASSUS. A very pleasant, evening was spent in the Parnassus S.-hoolroom on Saturday, when the School Committee held the last of a series of euchre parties and dances. The proceeds were in aid of the school prize fund. Prizes for the euchre were won by Mrs L. Foster and Mrs S. Philpott, the consolation prizes going to Miss P. Harneiss and Mr Harneiss. Mr 11. Hill supplied the music; for the dance, whieh followed. A presentation in the form of a pocket wallet was'mado to Mr 11. Hill, who has supplied the dance music for the functions held during the winter month, by Mr T. Wilkinson, chairman of the School Committee. BROOKSIDE. A surprise party visited the residence of Mr A. Hall (Brookside) on Monday to celebrate the coming-of-age of his eldest son Ken. Dancing, games, and competitions passed away the time till •midnight. After supper the ev'cning was.brought to a close by the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and "Auld Lang Syne." COOPER'S CREEK. A Very successful sale of work, organised by four girl members of the Young Helpers' League—Betty McXae, Joeelyn Webb, Lynda Proflitt, and Beatrice Mc-Grath —resulted in the pleasing amount of £i 30s being forwarded to Dr. Barnardo's Homes. The dangerous practice of cycling without lights along country roads was instanced., on Sunday, when Mr A. Frampton was knocked over by a cyclist. The handle-bar struck Mr Frampton in the left eye, which is seriously hurt. This and a few minor bruises necessitated his being detained at the Oxford Hospital.

HALSWELL. The final ouchro party and dance, in aid of the Coayent School Improvement Fund, was held in tike local hall, there being a record attendance. The winners of the euchre prizes were Mrs .Savage and Mrs Lunt and Mr L. Gabbatis and Mr T. MoDrury. After keen competition for the special prizes for tho four nights the results were: Gentlemen: Mr Wilson, 91 points, 1: Mr M. Wall, S3 points, 2; ladies: Mrs Kolknian. 81 points, 1; Miss E. Fitzgerald, 78 points, 2. Tho winners of the dancing novelties were: Waltzing competition, Mr' and Miss Greenlecs; Monte Carlo fox-trot, Mrs T. Wright and Mr Cribb; lucky-spot waltz, Air and Miss Aymos. Tho dance music was supplied! by Miss Moore, extras being played l>y Miss N. Eaglesome and Mr Col wile. Messrs JR. Harrison and R. Nottingham made efficient M.C.'s. The organisers aro very, grateful for tho support received throughout the tournament.

On Tuesday evening tho Hall Committee held its annual .meeting in the hall. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected for the "ensuing year: — Messrs F. Wilhelm .(hou. secretary). AW Wilson (chairman), H. Green (treasurer), J. Rogers. G. Gallagher, H. Hayes, J. Moloney, H. Cox. arid E. Lunt. LE BON'S BAT. The recent rains have had a very beneticial effect on the fodder, anu consequently on the milk supply. Before the rain the supply had reached about 9500 gallons per week, but after the rain this rose to 12,000 gallons per week, with prospects of a continued increase. Last week the factory made 14 cheeses and the manager, reports that id will be possible to exceed this number if the milk supply keeps up. Tho friends of Mrs A. Thelning and Miss Eileen Anderson will he pleased to know that their respective operations have been quite successful, and tTiey are recovering rapidly.

TAI TAPU. A very jolly time was spent ui Airs A. Tanner's home, when Mr and Mrs Tanner entertained a number of friends in honour of the visit of their four nieces—Miss Cossar (North Island', Misses G. and B. Cossar, and R. Gilmour. Music, games, competitions, and dancing helped to make the time pj;ss all too quickly. The winners of'the prizes for the competitions were Mrs H. Payne, Miss Herrick, Miss Heinzritsnn, and Mr D. Suckling. A dainty supper was served.

A fair is being held in the Town Hall this afternon in aid of the Methodist Church funds. As Sir Heaton Rhodes is unable to be present, it will be opened by the Mayoress of Christchurch (Mrs J. A. Flesher). Thero was a large congregation at the Presbyterian Church service on Sunday evening, when the Rev. F. Robertson conducted a special service for young men and women. Special hymns wore sang, and the minister took the opportunity of expressing his thanks to the members of the congregation for the handsome new organ which- was used in tho church that, evening. . .""

RAKAIA. A meeting of the committee of the "Rakaia Athletic and Cycling Club was held in the library on Tuesday evening. Mr E. Fox presiding over a good attendance. The secretary reported having received registration papers; from the Centre at Timaru. Twenty entries had been received for the road race to be held on November Ist. In connexion with this race the following officials were appointed:—Starter, Mr W. Black: judges, Messrs W. Cromie, B. McNamara, and C. Evison; lap steward, Mr J. McCoy; marshals, members of committee. Messrs E. Vox, A. Shannon, and 0. Evison were appointed a deputation to request the Domain Board to have the cycling track regraded. It was decided to hold a road race on November 29th for local riders, the course to be three times round the pound block. It was resolved to offer prizes for first, second, and third place, fastest time, and for first schoolboy to finish unplaced, the entry fee to b;o 2s. It was decided to hold the annual sports meeting on the first Saturday in March, 19125. The names of Messrs Albert Mead and S. Connolly were added to the committee.

A meeting of the committee of the Eakaia Football Club was held in the library on Tuesday evening, Mr S. Connolly presiding. The secretary reported that the accounts of the recent ball showed a credit balance of £ll 18s. Insurance amounting to £9 17a was paid to various players, and the fund was declared closed. It was decided to recommend to , the general meeting that representatives of the club be appointed to attend the annual meeting of the Ashburton County Sub-Union. At a special meeting of the South Eakaia School Committee, held on Tuesday evening, it was decided to confirm the appointment of Mr M. P. Cook as head teacher of the Eakaia School. Mr Cook is at present head teacher at Orari School.

On Tuesday evening the members of Ledge Eakaia, 1.0.0.!;'., entertained the members of the Edith Cavell (Kebekah) Lodge at a social which was held in the supper-room at the Town Hall. The evening was spent in card games and music. Songs were given by Mrs A. Mead, Mr 3 Butters, Miss Morey, and Messrs L. Cox, and E. Alexander. The accompaniments were played by Miss C. Shannon. Supper was served by thebrethren of Lodge Eakaia.

SEAFIELD. At the final euchre tournament run by the Seatield Miniature Rifle Club, the attendance was good. Tho ladies' prize was won by Airs J. McDonald with 113 points, Miss K. Hampton being second with 109 points. For the gentlemen's prize Messrs J. B. Lambie, E. Johnson, and It. Baynes tied with 114 points, and in tho play-off J. B. Lambie won, It. Baynes being second. The second prke was given by Mr LScott. Tho aggregate prizes given by Mr J. Bruce were also presented. The gentlemen's prizes were won bv Mr It. Grico with 967 points and Mr R ; Baynes with 960 points. The ladies prizes were won by Mrs R. Grice with iXH) points and Miss R. "Watson with 8-58 points. After supppr Mr R. Baynes thanked all who had given prTzes during the season.
