Patterson said Tilden, above all as a nlaver, stood alone as the worlds first-class exponent of the game. He added th».t there was nothing in the rumours that Tilden was retiring. He did not think people woald let the" champion retire, anyway. He tried to induce Tilden. to visit Australia, but failed. Hov.ever, they might have an Amencan te*ui next year, including the Kinsey brothers and Richards.
